The “Mini Guide to Mini and Nano Bags!

Hi Everyone,

If you haven’t noticed, there are a lot of mini and nano bags out there! They just exploded this year! For those who are hoping on that wagon, here’s a mini guide to help you navigate all the mini and nano cuteness!

FENDI MICRO MONSTER BAGUETTE $1,400

PROS

  1. Anything mini sized always makes our hearts skip a beat. In the end, mini bags are too irresistible because of their dainty size
  2. Mini bags, depending on their design, are versatile for many occasions from day to night because their stature doesn’t inappropriately overwhelm an outfit
  3. Mini bags are easier to carry since most designs offer crossbody straps. The bags themselves are less bulky and easier to maneuver
  4. A quality mini bag is an exact duplicate as its original, bigger style in terms of craftsmanship and aesthetic. You can get the same look of a iconic bag in a scaled down version for (sometimes) a comparably more affordable price
FENDI MICRO PEEKABOO BAG $1,550

CONS

  1. Not everyone is infatuated with mini and it may not suit your personality. For some, mini bags can come off looking more childish than flatteringly dainty.
  2. Some micro and mini styles are meant to be used as “bag charms” in tangent with or in a bigger bag. For some, this is redundant and a bigger hassle
  3. Mini unfortunately means less storage. The items you carry are severely limited with mini bags (some nano and micro versions can barely hold a phone!). With smaller sizes, you become restricted in terms of space and have to carefully think about what to pack.
  4. Even though most mini bags (that aren’t exotic or limited edition) are cheaper than their counterparts, the price difference between a bigger bag may be so marginal that it’s hard to justify buying the mini or a bigger bag that offers a lot more in terms of space and material.
MULBERRY MINI LILY BAG $590

Lastly, WHY so many of these mini bags? I came across this little blurb from PurseBlog, can’t put this better myself!

Fashion is a industry where things are often taken to their logical extremes. While some women are likely still paying off their orthopedic bills from the enormous bag trend of the late 2000s, things have now swung back firmly in the other direction; brands of all types are now making bags that are small enough to be considered decorative accessories for otherbags.

For brands, the upside to these tiny bags are twofold. First, they provide entry-level customers a way to buy one of the brand’s bags without quite hitting the price tag of a normal-sized designer purse, but they don’t do the kind of damage to a brand’s air of exclusivity that monogram canvas bags at lower price points tend to. It’s a “special little piece,” not a less-expensive, logo-covered canvas bag.

Second, these bags provide a new product tier for the highest-end customers. If you’re already a devoted buyer of Fendi bags, for example, then why wouldn’t you buy an adorable little miniature to hang from the new spring bag you’re already buying? At a certain consumer level, adding another $1,500 to a purchase price doesn’t make people blink, especially if it makes a customer feel like she’s getting something extra and ultra-fashionable.

For the consumers who fall in between those two groups, though, these bags are just bags, and that means they’re all intended to carry stuff in some way, shape or form. At this size, they do that with varying levels of success. Because my ultimate arbiter of whether or not I can carry a bag is if my enormous iPhone 6 Plus can fit inside, that’s the rule I used to measure all of the ultra-tiny bags below. It’s 6.22 inches tall, so that’s where I drew the line.

Interesting read. I actually love smaller bags. It makes me think about what I really need to carry around & they don’t leave my shoulder feeling like it’s about to snap off. I love the ones you’ve featured here.

I’ve noticed quite a few of these in shops lately! Lovely picks – I think they might be a little out of my price range, but they look gorgeous nonetheless, especially the pink one! x
