As you plan this New Year’s celebration, you’ll see how much has changed. You’re no longer thinking about staying out all hours of the night with your friends but planning a low-key but fun way to commemorate your baby’s very first New Year’s celebration. More than likely you’ll want to stay in, but there are still plenty of activities and gift options to mark this milestone.
- Mark your baby’s first New Year with “First New Year,” slogan attire. You can’t go wrong with onesies splashed with gold fireworks or pink confetti, or a little bowtie, making your new addition look adorable for a midnight peck from both of you.
- Get the entire family dressed up. Even if you plan to stay in, there’s some fun and festive in putting party clothes on. Whether you choose to buy designer dresses and duds and specialty socks and bibs, you can find and buy gorgeous baby gift baskets in Sydney.
- Have a party at home with other families and friends with young babies. You’ll still get some adult conversation and the babies will be fascinated by the confetti. Babies also love bubbles so consider buying lots of bubbles and wands or even a bubble machine and watch their eyes grow as they watch the bubbles grow and pop. You don’t even need to go crazy on the food and can just offer appetizers for the adults and some homemade baby purees and simple finger foods for the babies.
- Take a family photo. Find a special spot like a favourite park or café and ask another family member to take the photo. To expand on this idea, create a photo collage of your favourite moments with your baby. Highlight the best ones, such as the birth, coming home, the first time sitting up, and then put the newest family photo in the centre. See if you can find a photo collage frame with 2017 on it, or you can add the year on if you are crafty. If you like the result, you can continue this tradition each year.
- Buy the parents a calendar. Baby books take so much time and energy to fill out, but busy parents can take a minute to jot down one thing their baby did on each day. Then, next year, they’ll review it again.
- Gather some your baby’s things from the last year and place them in a time capsule. Think items like the outfit he wore home from the hospital, his first tooth, his first photo, and maybe a few personal notes from both of you. In addition, you can list any major news that happened the year he was born, and anything you want him to know when he opens it in 10 years. Just think of the memories you’ll share of telling him how much love you put into creating it.
For the first few years, New Year’s with a baby may seem like any other night, but it doesn’t mean you can’t make it fun by snuggling on the couch with the baby or even celebrating earlier in the day. There is no wrong way to ring in the New Year.
