Call it Home

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a year and a bit since I moved into my new home. It’s exactly how I vision my home to look like, from the flooring to the drapes – even little detail like the moldings on the ceiling. In fact, I’m actually not quite done, there’s maybe 10 more items that’s on my wish list. I like to change/add to my home. I want it to be perfect. I want every single paint/objects in my house to mean something to us. I’m huge on photographs and memories. I love collecting items when I travel so I can bring a little piece of memory home.

As I sit here and looked around my house – I’m happy and feel so blessed that I have this roof over our heads and enough space for us to come home every night and feel comfortable and if the heating stops working so we aren’t as comfortable then we will have to talk to a professional similar to Heating ridgewood nj. I’m sure you all know by now that I love to travel, I love to explore try and eat new things. My work requires me to travel a lot, although it’s never anywhere exciting – but it’s always a new location each time in Ontario. Ontario is huge! So even though some days like last week where I got sent to Cornwall or a few months ago I was in North Ontario in the middle of winter. Yes. -30 degrees. As much as I complain about the cold, I’m happy that I get to travel to all these places. I’m happy that I get to meet these people. It really put my world into perspective. I meet people in plain closed community; I meet people from a very very very small town community. Each and everyone of them are so sweet and welcoming when I arrive, I get to hear their stories and different life styles. To them a 2 hour drive is very common. I once I heard a woman say driving to Ikea is a day trip. 4 hours there and 4 hours back. But she makes it fun – “you just make a family day trip out of it!” I admire them, because I would never have the patience to do that or would I be happy travelling 4 hours to Ikea just to buy a bed frame. You really develop a different appreciation of life and what you take for granted like my 30 mins to Ikea is nothing compare to these people.

In all honestly, Toronto is a very materialistic environment. Full confession, I buy things where in no way I “need”. Like my make up brush owl holder? Do I really need to pay $15 dollars for that? No not really – I could simply use a left over spaghetti jar and call it a day. But because, I’m surrounded by the media influence, it becomes a “need” that I “need’ this fancy owl jar with pretty pebbles to hold up my brushes.

IMG_2595

The point of this post is to start collecting memories but not “things”. I’m still working on this, it’s actually a very difficult task for me because I’m easily distracted and influenced by the media and marketing. But this is something I’m slowly working on – it’s not going to happen overnight. But slowly, I will change my lifestyle to be less materialized.

I absolutely love my first home. For anyone thinking about moving house, I would suggest you just go for it! It’s been the best decision I’ve ever made. You can get quotes from solicitors online when you are ready to move house so that you know if you’re making the right decision for you. Moving house wasn’t even that stressful The best thing about having my own home is that it’s actually mine and I can do anything with it. If I wanted to tear down the doors and put in new windows, at any point I could call a contractor to do it (I know people who did, they kept throwing me links to window options from Graceland Windows and Doors), or I could repaint the entire place over a few weekends if that’s the way I felt that day. If I did want to completely change the theme I would always opt for peel and stick wallpaper from Simple Shapes as it’s cheaper and a lot more easy to apply and replace though. I love how personalized this home is, this home is filled with love from my family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is home.

The brush holder is so cute, I can see why you had to have it! 🙂

We’ve definitely been moving more towards experiences than material things, we got a lot of experience type things and less ‘stuff’ for Christmas, which was lovely. Trying to downsize and declutter you realise how little you need, it’s all the memories and experiences that matter.

Thanks! I agree, every year I keep getting more and more presents – but Do I really need everything? Sometimes they just sit in a box for years! I don’t even open it! We have more than we need and it’s time to declutter and start donating! Thanks again for dropping by!
