Today we`re going to talk about solo and family travelling as lately people so often ask me, I prefer to travel solo or with family or maybe friends. Yes, I really like travelling and I’ve been fortunate to experience solo travel as well as family travel. Which is my favorite? Oh, it`s so hard for me to answer, but I would be safe to say that no matter how you like to travel, they all have pros and cons.

Here I`d like to share some of these pros and cons that help you brainstorm your options while you deciding whether you travel solo or with your family members.

So let’s start with solo travel…

Solo travel is something I firmly believe every girl should try at least for once in her life. I think so because there is no better way to know who you are as a person than spending time with yourself away from the distractions of routine life.

Pros of travelling solo:

  • You grow as a person during a solo trip. You’re completely free in making decisions. You have nobody to rely on but yourself. Thus, travelling solo forces you to become independent and step out of your common comfort zone.
  • It`s easier to meet people as a solo traveler. Such travelling allow you to meet people you usually wouldn’t have noticed and visit places that only you would like to visit as just you define the trip.
  • You need to worry about yourself and nobody else. You can do everything what you want, when you want and where you want. You don’t have to follow someone else’s rules. You can be selfish and change your mind every few days.
  • You can learn a foreign language faster and improve your social skills. If you travel on your own, you’ve got a better chance to learn a foreign language faster. You have no choice but to speak with the local population to find out how to get from one place to another. So you meet more and more people, introduce yourself to the strangers and make conversation with them.
  • You have time for reflection and solitude. As a solo traveler you can get to know yourself better than you ever have before.

But there are also cons of solo travel:

  • You can feel lonely. When you travel alone, you can’t share all those amazing and wonderful experience with your significant other or partner. And don’t forget about homesickness if you’re on your own.
  • You don’t have a good companion if you get sick or get in trouble.
  • You’re definitely less safe when you travel alone.

Family travel is a completely different set of challenges to that of solo one. But it also has its pros and cons. Besides, here you`ll find pros and cons of friends with benefits travel experience.

Pros of family travel:

  • You have a great chance to spend quality family time together. Life is chaotic, especially if you have a family. You’re very busy all the time. So family travelling helps you connect with your nearest and dearest people.
  • You can make memorable moments as a family. Travel experiences are cool family memories.
  • Travelling with your family gives you amazing learning experience. Travels help you broaden your kids` understanding of the world. Family trip allows to show your children that your city just a small spot on the map of the world.

The main cons of family travelling are:

  • As parents, you can’t enjoy much night life. You need to take care of your kids because your babysitter has stayed at home.
  • Sometimes it happened that children miss school because of a family trip and the quality of kids` education can suffer.
  • Overdose of the whole family can have the opposite effect. When you’re at home, you see your family, but maybe not so often as during your family trip. When you’re together all the time you can start to bother each other a little, but there is no escaping!
  • You carry more luggage if you’re going for a family trip. Kids need a lot of stuff, especially if you’re travelling with younger children (bottles, food, clothes, nappies etc.). It`s not so comfortable and fast to travel with such luggage.

As you see there are a lot of pros and cons of both solo and family travelling. But I hope these tips will be useful for you. So have you already decided what type of travelling will be more comfortable for your next travel?

Thanks so much for reading.
